We are excited to announce that W4G Track Recovery has become Exeter Living Awards finalists! The asset investigation and repatriation arm of the W4G Group has reached the finals in the Technology and Innovation category. In this article, we provide an insight into the work that has been put in to achieve this recognition and disclose more information about the Exeter Living Awards.
W4G Track Recovery was established in December 2019 and since then we have made great strides in developing this side of the W4G Group. As the investigation and intelligence research arm of W4G, our track recovery team make it their mission to discover crime patterns and predict future trends, to minimise the level of criminal activity and thwart those who are already committing certain types of crime.
From managing all aspects of the stolen vehicle recovery process to providing risk management advice to data mining and analytics, our track recovery arm provides a vast range of services across sectors, but mostly to the automotive sector. A recent example of our track recovery team providing an open source intelligence investigation outside of the automotive sector came as we provided Security Services At A Grade II Listed Building In London.
Everyone at the W4G Group was delighted to hear of Exeter Living Awards giving recognition to what we do on the track recovery side of things, as it reinforced the importance of such services to the UK and parts of Europe. In addition, the fact that we have been listed as finalists in the technology and innovation sector reflects the intelligence and dedication of our security professionals.
Below are three recent examples of how our team at W4G Track Recovery have utilised their expertise and experience to facilitate stolen vehicle recovery.
Range Rover Sport – Stolen From Branch
KIA Niro – Customer Refusing To Return Vehicle
A Renter refused to return the KIA Niro to our client, due to a payment dispute, and subsequently hid the vehicle. The client had already conducted numerous address visits and could not catch a sight of the vehicle, and the vehicle did not have a tracker installed. At this point, W4G Track Recovery opened a dialogue with the Renter to negotiate the release of the vehicle, which broke down fairly quickly.
We convinced the Renter to take photos of the vehicle to check the condition, we then reversed the search and discovered the location where the photos were taken. From there, we traced associates and family members to find an address for a family member near the photo location. An agent was deployed and the vehicle was located on the family member’s driveway. The vehicle was taken back, with spare keys, and returned back to the client.
Volvo S90 R – Stolen From Customer, Tracker Removed
A Volvo S90 R was reported stolen by the Renter, however the tracker had been removed 2 days before the theft was reported. We interrogated the tracker data and attempted to pinpoint any key locations from which the vehicle was stolen. The trackers’ last known location was in a garage in the same area. We deployed an agent to the garage location, but there was no no sight of the vehicle.
Therefore, we conducted an OSINT (open source intelligence) investigation into the garage and discovered an ebay store, where this garage sells vehicle parts. We were able to ID the target vehicle from a picture they posted on ebay of the engine, displaying the engine number matching the missing vehicle. We passed on our findings to the police and the vehicle was recovered partially broken down.
Exeter Living Awards is one of, if not the, biggest annual business events in Exeter. Throughout the evening, some of the best organisations based in or around the city of Exeter are celebrated and acknowledged for their work over the past year. Awards are given to businesses who have been nominated in specific categories, such as arts, business services, education, new business and technology and innovation.
