Our team here at W4G Fire & Security recently provided our London security services to help prevent intruders from entering a Grade II listed building in the centre of the capital. Here, we provide information about why our security expertise was required and details about the work we carried out to help tighten security operations.
The problem that this Grade II listed building faced was in relation to unauthorised personnel showing intent to commit illegal activity or trespassing. Our client was concerned that unauthorised personnel would attempt to gain access to the building to either generally be amongst what is left of this historical piece of architecture or steal property, such as plant machinery. Therefore, we were tasked with implementing some security measures to help lessen the likelihood of trespassers gaining access and to catch individuals that do enter the site.
Currently, as the building sits, it’s vacant, stripped out and awaiting redevelopment. This is what makes it a target for groups of trespassers looking to gain access to the property or steal anything inside. Our team was contacted by representatives of the Grade II listed building and asked to provide electronic security as well as response services, with the view of thwarting unauthorised individuals or groups.
We provided electronic security by installing an intruder alarm and installing CCTV cameras, as well as keyholding and alarm response services to the location, which is supported by our Gold Accredited Alarm Response Centre (ARC), who monitor the cameras.
On a recent occasion, our monitoring team was alerted to trespassers on the site as movement was detected on the CCTV cameras we installed. Our team was able to review footage and confirm intruders were at the location before immediately calling the Met Police, who attended the site. Our monitoring team also called out our keyholding services, in order to provide extra guarding services and building access.
As a result of this incident, we employed the services of our investigation and intelligence research arm, Track Recovery, to conduct an open source intelligence investigation, which revealed that the site had been referred to on a number of different online forums, highlighting it as a target for urban exploring.
Further intelligence research is ongoing to mitigate any further threat against this or any other vulnerable location within our security portfolio, whether that is in London or any other part of the UK.
